One Way Our Sustainability Efforts are (Literally) Picking Up Speed

When we tell you we strive to lead the race toward a sustainable future, we’re usually being figurative.

Not this time.

We’ve entered into a partnership with an auto racing park to reuse tire materials from our North American factory. That helps us continue our practice of recycling or reusing all production waste at Nokian Tyres’ factories around the globe.

It’s the latest example of our efforts to advance our core value of sustainability, which joins safety atop our priority list. And the tire material we’re sending the Flatrock Motorsports Park will also promote safety – it’ll be used in the track’s safety barriers.

Our Dayton Factory is 32 miles from the motorsports facility, which will feature multiple FIA-certified racing circuits, as well as world-class events, amenities and entertainment. It aims to earn global renown for the racing there, just as we strive to earn respect for the way we’re operating our factory down the road.

Our North American production facility:

  • Is the only LEED v4 Silver-certified tire production facility in the world
  • Recently joined the Tennessee Green Star Partnership and has won awards for its sustainability and workplace culture
  • Is partially powered by solar energy – and the adjacent administration building is fully powered by our onsite solar panels

Globally, our factories produce the lowest emissions per production ton in the tire industry.

The Dayton Factory is the epicenter of our mission to make all season and all weather tires for North American drivers. We’ll double capacity there next year after hiring 125 new team members in 2023.

And through partnerships like our zero-waste-to-landfill project with Flatrock Motorsports Park, we’ll make sure that growth remains in line with our values.
