How should tires be stored?

Proper storage can extend tires’ life. They should be stored in a dry, dark, cool space, between 32 and 60 degrees. Conditions that are too warm can dry out the rubber and cause cracks. They should be kept out of the rain and away from moisture to avoid condensation, and must be far from bright lights, electric sparks, oils and grease. Tires are to be stored loosely in order to retain their shape – they can be piled or hung from the rims. Before storing tires always wash and inspect them. Note: Some tire dealers offer tire storage for a fee; ask your local retailer if they provide this service.
