Double slush edge
During warmer winter weather, snow and ice melt and form thick sheets of slush on the surface of the road. The slush wedge increases the balanced safety characteristics of the tire in the rapidly changing Northern winter weather.
The slush wedges that improve the safety of the Nokian Hakkapeliitta 7 studded tire on wet snow were originally developed for Central European non-studded winter tires. They are commonly used in conditions where thawed snow is more common than in the north.
The slushplaning effect is doubled for the Nordic studded tire: In the Nokian Hakkapeliitta 7, the slush wedge was added on both shoulders at the edge of the tire. Its wedge-like angle effectively cuts through the wet slush between the road and tire, thereby reducing the risk of slushplaning.
