Road noise from studded tires took some getting used to, but now I don't notice it at all. Where I am in upstate NY , snow and ice are a regular thing. I can sum up my feeling about these tires in 3 words : Peace of Mind

Road noise unacceptable

Can't believe how LOUD the road noise is with these tires (we use them without studs). We've had other brands of winter tires on this car, but there was never this amount of noise. Any speed over 20mph, it begins- an annoying, ear-shattering, low-pitched hum, - and I find I prefer to use my other Subaru (with different tires) over this one simply because I can't stand listening to the noise. I've taken the car to a couple of different mechanics, who just shrug their shoulders and feel it is typical of winter tires, but I disagree. We've had other brands of snow on this car, with no noise problem. Won't buy this brand again. What a waste of $700...

Good ice traction, skittish on dry pavement
fireman-175 • 3 years ago
I use these on a 2017 Grand Cherokee. Great on ice and snow. As with any studded tire, they are skittish on dry pavement. Decent on wet pavement, but you have to drive more carefully and slower in curves. Totally expected. The only down grade was that I have lost about 5% of the studs, especially in the front wheels. I run these about November to March in eastern Washington. I would not want any other tire on my family SUV.

Excellent performance; low noise

Got these tires just before a winter storm leading up to Christmas. I was sold on getting Nokians, but not sure whether to get studs or not. After getting advice from several dealers and also some Nokian reps, I went with the Nordman 7 studded instead of non studded 7's or R2's. I've driven them on dry highway and country roads, dirt access and local roads with hard packed snow and ice, and paved roads in poor condition with snow and ice. These tires replaced Cooper Weathermaster winter tires without studs. 1. Noise. Surprisingly quiet! I only hear the studs at very slow speeds (10-15 mph or less). Once rolling well, there's noise, but doesn't seem like more than the Coopers had - just a different tone to it. It doesn't sound metallic as I'd been led to expect by most people. 2. Dry handling. Even at speed, the tires are very stable. Far more than the Coopers, and rivaling my all seasons. When experimenting with turns, I found the response to be very gradual rather than sudden (in a good way). The lateral stability is excellent. No wiggling back and forth in response to turns. 3. Ice/snow. Amazing - almost perfect even in terrible conditions with curving, steep roads. On a few occasions, there was a slight drift, but it neither began nor ended suddenly, so it didn't even bother me. I just felt complete confidence that car and tires wouldn't lose it. I found myself going much faster than I would have with the previous tires, and usually slowed down on general principle. The dealer experience was excellent as well. I bought these from Vianor in Rutland, Vermont. They know the roads leading to the mountains, and they know tires. They had me out the door in well under an hour despite me arriving very early for an appointment that they managed to squeeze me into ahead of the storm. I'm rolling these on a 99 Subaru Forester without traction control. I highly recommend this model tire

Anchor stud
Firm handling in corners and during evasions
The anchor stud is wide, multifaceted, and sturdy, boosting the tire’s longitudinal grip during acceleration and braking. The stud’s wide bottom flange supports it, boosting lateral grip.
Air Claw Technology
Excellent winter grip and driving comfort
The combination of the anchor stud and air damping offers driving comfort and safety on ice, snow, and wet road surfaces. Air Claw Technology refers to a combination of sturdy studs and waterdrop-shaped air dampers on the front edges of the tread blocks. This combination provides efficient grip and good stud durability while at the same time lowering the noise level and reducing road wear.
Bear Claw
Relentless braking grip
Bear Claw is an innovation that keeps the stud perpendicular to the driving surface during braking by applying optimal tension to the tread block. The multifaceted, sturdy anchor stud boosts longitudinal grip during acceleration and braking.
Eco Stud System
Sturdy grip, softer driving
The key concept behind the Eco Stud System technology is the stud cushion that dampens the stud’s impact with the road. This reduces road wear and results in a more pleasant rolling noise.
